Mumbai: The Goregaon Sports Club was created by the Champion team in the 31st GD Birla Memorial Masters Inter-Club Badminton tournament and defeated the Host Club Bombay Gymkhana 2-1 in the final of the Elite Cup Team Championship.
Separna Popat, Mangirish Palekar and Manoj Nachanekar had a worthwhile tournament and in this Premier Inter-Club tournament went with double titles, which was funded by Badminton Gurukul.
Sanjeev Mahajan and Bhagwan S gave a start of profit and defeated Gautam Laud and Faisal Sidique 21-18, 14-21, 21-19 in a hard three. Shailesh Daga and Ayaz Bilawala brought the hosts Bombay Fitness to the level and took into account Leroy d’A and Hemant Duggal 21-14, 21-18. It was then left to Rajesh Bhanushali and Abhishek Sharma, who won the title for GSC with a 21-13, 21-19 victory against APARNA POPAT and BIMALDEEEP Singh.
Nachankar, the professional infing, defeated the second seed Chan Bandarkar 22-20, 21-19 for the singles title and then worked with Rahul Bhuvad to win the double final. Palekar has teamed up with Vicrant Patwardhan to win the men’s double 45 titles with a 21-18, 21-17 victory against Gautam Laud and Sandep Mohan. Together with Deepak Jaitley, Palekar won the 85+ double title and defeated Nigel d’A and Rohan Radhakra 21-15, 21-10.
