    US Open Golf against US Open Tennis – a comparison

    From Randy Walker

    @Tennispublisher

    Let us make a comparison between US Open Golf and US Open tennis. I was motivated to do this, since the 2024 US Open took place in the Oakmont Country Club outside of Pittsburgh, PA and a podcast in my podcast “Tennispublisher” in the “Tennis Publisher” podcast network on the swell podcast network (a mini-podcast, in which all podcasts are less than 15 minutes long, as you can hear here: https://www.swellcast.com/t/o1uo0qian4fuznr

    Prize money

    In 2024, the US tennis association paid prize money of 75 million US dollars with the singles champions for men and women, each earn 3.6 million dollars. The Usta pays prize money tests to around 600 players, between the main players of the main player (256 players), qualifying singles players (224 players), double players (around 100 total)/ from

    In 2025, the US Golf Association in the US Open Golf in Oakmont paid 21.5 million US dollars in prize money and at the US women open in ERIN Hills in Wisconsin $ 12 million. The US Golf Association does not pay men and women, in contrast to the US tennis association that has done it since 1973, not the same prize money. The US Open -Männer -Champion deserves 4.3 million US dollars and the women’s master earns 2.4 million US dollars in 2025. While the US Open Tennis money price -Checks at around 600 players, at Golf, with Golf players who do the cut (TOP 60) (TOP) (TOP), earn a PayCheck.

    TV reviews

    In 2024, both the finals of men and the singles of women TV ratings for ESPN received 1.6 million viewers (Aryna Sabalenka hit Jessica Pegula and Jannik Sünd, who beat Taylor Fritz). In 2023 Coco Gauff’s victory against Sabalenka was viewed by 3.6 million viewers, and Novak Djokovic’s victory against Daniil Medwedev received a 2.3 million viewing number. Us open tennis naturally competes against college football and NFL football.

    In 2024, the US Open Dual between Bryson Decimbeau and Rory McIlroy in Pinehurst in North Carolina was seen by 5.9 million viewers on NBC. The US women Open in Erin Hills, which was strongly won by the relative unknown Maja in 2025, was seen by 1.58 million views on NBC (roughly the same as the final of the US Open men and women -singles from 2024).

    Availability / infrastructure in the media

    I am discussing this in my podcast mentioned above, in which professional golfers do not after the match/round press conferences or the availability of media and this to a controversy in the golf player, while tennis players are available to the media or have to be fined.

    The Usta has just announced an upgrade of 800 million US dollars for the institutions in the Usta Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and at Arthur Ashhe Stadium. The USGA recently spent 4.8 million US dollars for fan and corporate guest friendship costs in the Oakmont Country Club, one of the newly announced “Anker” stores for their championship.
